Harding Leaves Mark on Evergreen
Source: AJB Motorsports Marketing

Langley, BC, Canada – Shane Harding and the ShaneCity Racing Team sent the 2006 Evergreen Speedway Super Stock season out in style this past Saturday night by capturing his ninth win on the year.

Harding, the 2005 Champion, repeated as the 2006 Champion even though he missed one event while campaigning his NASCAR Autozone Elite Division car in the North West Series.

“It was a very long year in a lot of ways,” commented Harding. “Our team had a lot of highs with the wins at Evergreen and we qualified and ran well at times on the tour. All in all, it was a terrific year.”

The Bob Keam led crew prepared both of the Ed’s Transmission, Harding Forklift cars for the total of 20 races that they competed in during the 2006 season.

It will be a busy off-season for the 30 year old Harding as he plans to marry his fiancé Shae Stephens November 25th.

Preliminary plans for the 2007 season include returning to Evergreen Speedway in their crate-motored program to defend his back to back titles. “With the future of racing in the North West up in the air we plan to head back to Monroe to perhaps tie my dad’s record from Skagit.” Shane’s dad, Pete, won three consecutive titles at Skagit Speedway, dubbed the 3-Pete, while capturing 28 victories. “I think that is a pretty cool mark that my Dad set and it would mean a lot to me personally to tie the championships, and maybe even win a few more!”

The Celebration Begins

Shane's 2006 victory burnout ends with a bang.
Shane has just won the season final race on the 5/8-mile and also clinched the 2006 Evergreen speedway Superstock championship.

We started the race being 6 points out of first place. Shane said to all before the race,"it's going to be checkers or wreckers" none of us would have ever guessed it would be both! Shane won the race, and in doing so won the championship on the final night of racing.

During Shane's victory burnout on the start of the front stretch Shane became lost in the smoke, during the burnout he came up with a great idea. He would come out of the smoke doing a burnout and finish on the the start-finish line. In order to do so, while he was spinning around he tracked where the grandstand lights were. His plan was that he would come out of the smoke parallel to the lights in the grandstands. While the idea was perfect, the relation of the lights being parallel to the track was wrong as they are not parallel to the track.

Needless to say he came out of the smoke at full throttle and at a high rate of speed hitting the wall very hard causing substantial damage. Yes he did drive the car to the start-finish, but only with a shower of sparks from all the damage. The car needed to be towed from that point on.

Harding Repeats as Champion at Evergreen Speedway

Monroe, WA (September 17, 2006): Shane Harding won the Evergreen Speedway championship by way of winning his ninth main of the season on Saturday September 16. Harding the 2005 Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Super Stock champion followed up with the 2006 crown. The ‘Big Track Championship’ night also featured championship races for the Late Model Challenge Series and the Northwest Pro 4 Truck Tour. The LMCS Race was won by Roger Habich while Troy Conrad is the 2006 champion. Pete Brady won the NW Pro 4 Truck main and Bart Hector a first championship.

Harding started the night 6-points behind Rob Touchette. Taking the lead on lap 8 of the 75-lap main Harding was never challenged the remainder of the race. Touchette’s chance at a first championship came apart when the rear end of his Ford blew apart on lap 23. Having to retire Touchette dejectedly watch the remaining laps in the pits.

Matching last season’s nine wins Harding also repeats as the Super Stock Champion. In the post race celebration burnout Harding’s car shot up into the front stretch wall causing much damage to the car. In the interview Harding could only say “I can not believe I did that and I can not believe I won the championship. I feel bad for Rob (Touchette)”. As Harding was surveying his damaged car he said “I needed to rebuild the car anyhow to insert the new crate motor for next season”.

A 12th place finish for Touchette was enough to hold second place in the final points standing. Doug Davidson finished the season in third after his fourth place run in the main. Roger Habich finished second ahead of Naima Lang.

Shane wins his eighth race of the 2006 season.

September 2nd, 2006 It was another hot day at the Evergreen State fair in Monroe this past weekend with good crowds on hand to watch a very exciting Superstock race. The race had fans standing most of the race seeing Shane win his eight race of the year, just narrowly defeating Naima Lang who was looking for his first career Superstock win.

In qualifying Shane set fast time for the 6th time of the year running a 17.680 lap on Evergreens 3/8-mile oval.

With the invert having Shane starting 10th, Shane wasted no time in rapidly moving forward. Shane would move to 5th by lap two, and into 3rd by lap three.

Shane moved into the 2nd position behind our great competitor Naima Lang on lap nine. In a very spirited battle weaving through lapped traffic with Shane in hot pursuit, this kept the fans standing all the way until lap 50 for what appeared to be Naima’s first win of his Superstock career. This was not to be as on lap 49 with Naima only needing to make it through turns three and four to take the checkered flag. The two cars of Naima and Shane came upon the slower car of Travis Powell, who stayed in the middle groove of the track. Shane went low under Travis while Naima went to the high side splitting the slower car between the 1st and 2nd place cars. Shane beat Naima to the flag by only a couple of feet.

AUGUST 26th NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

August 26th, 2006 In practice the team concentrated on making sure Shane’s brakes were at their best. With the brake problem behind them Shane went out to qualify, on his first lap he ran a 17.481 lap, which was fast time of the day. In his second lap the car was very loose and was uncharacteristically slower than his first qualifying lap.

The teams at Evergreen Speedway have been forced to use four-year-old left side Goodyear tires due to a tire shortage from Goodyear. In the last couple of races this tire has caused havoc with most of the teams. This race would be Shane’s turn to have difficulties with these tires, as the stagger from both left side tires was incredibly inconsistent with normal.

With the invert having Shane starting 11th out of 17 cars Shane's plan was to get to the front as quick as possible. Unfortunately the best plans don't always work out. On lap two, Tom Hughes and Darin Stordahl made contact with Darin spinning the car in turn 1. Shane drove off the tracks paved surface out and around the car on the track. In a controversial move, the officials decided Shane was involved in the caution as he was in the dirt and sent him to the rear of the field despite him having no possible involvement in the spun car other than avoiding it. Shane while unhappy about the decision made the best of it and worked his way up to 10th by lap 12 and then to 4th by lap 21. At this point passing became agonizingly slow as the lead cars were 1/2 a lap ahead of Shane’s car. Shane would spend the remaining laps counting down under green flag conditions to slowly reel them in without the aid of any needed cautions. Unfortunately the needed caution didn't come out until late in the race, just as Shane had moved inside of the 2nd place car and current point leader Rob Touchette. The resulting Green-White Checker finish didn’t allow Shane another opportunity for another pass.

AUGUST 12th NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

August 12th, 2006 In practice Shane complained of weak braking ability. With time being very short to qualify and the team unsure of whether the lack of braking was related to the brakes themselves or the four-year-old Goodyear tires all the teams were forced to use. Shane went out and made his qualifying run, Shane qualified in the 6th position despite having very little braking.

After qualifying the team had time to investigate the lack of braking finding very glazed brake pads. Despite the replacement pads being dramatically different than those we normally use, they helped tremendously. Shane was able to increase his lap speeds 2/10's of a second over his earlier practice speeds.

For the main event Shane would start on the outside 2nd row. Shane would take the lead before the 1st lap was over. After taking the lead, a couple of cars behind him made contact and spun before the 1st lap was over. The track brought out the yellow and then the red flag. The officials had the teams make a complete restart of the race. For the 2nd restart Shane still made quick work moving to the 2nd place position on lap 2, and remaining there until lap 9 when Shane moved forward to take the lead from Scott Sarto. Shane would remain in the lead to fight off the hard charging Naima Lang all the way to the end on lap 50 to take the checkered flag for his 7th win of the year. This win moved Shane to within 8 point of the current point leader Rob Touchette.

AUGUST 5th NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

August 5th, 2006 In this weekends racing, nothing came easy for the ShaneCity racing team. A decision earlier in the week was made to not race the NASCAR Northwest Tour Elite division race at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls Idaho. The team is going to concentrate on winning their 2nd NASCAR Dodge weekly series title in the Evergreen Speedway Superstock division.

While normally running the Evergreen speedway Superstock races have been fairly easy for the team, this weekends double-header races were the exception as they were plagued by numerous problems. The team was very shorthanded on crew this past weekend. To make matters worse, a few of the crewmembers and Shane fell ill at the track with very sour stomach’s caused by bad restaurant food. Geoff and Tom really stepped up and took on the challenge of doing jobs normally done by others. They did an incredible job in getting the car ready for practice and after a disappointing 6th place qualifying position; they made numerous changes to get the car faster for the race.

Another problem plaguing the ShaneCity race team as well as all the teams at Evergreen Speedway was tires. Goodyear has been having problems lately delivering the quantities of tires needed by the race teams. As a result all the teams were required to run left side tires that were at least four years old. These tires provided very little grip and contributed to many problems to all the teams during the races.

In the evening’s first race on the 3/8-mile track, the invert would have Shane starting in the 10th position. Shane showed why it his most favorite track of all. Shane moved up at a blistering pace taking 2nd position on by lap 6, and then took the lead on lap 16 where he and his great competitor Roger Habich dueled until lap 50 with Shane taking his 6th win of the season.

In the 2nd 50-lap race of the evening, the invert had Shane starting 9th. Shane made quick work of it and moved to 5th on the first lap, and then to 2nd by lap twelve. On lap fourteen with Shane making a pass on the outside of the leader Tom Hughes, Tom car was unable to hold his line with the very poor grip provided by the four year old tires. Contact was made between the two cars with both spinning. Shane was able to make a full spin and keep on going without any cars passing him. This put Shane in the lead albeit temporarily. Unfortunately a new rule was implemented during this race that required any cars involved in a caution be sent to the back of the pack of lead lap cars.

Shane restarted the race in the 13th position on lap 17, he once again rapidly moved up positions taking 8th place on lap 25 staying there until lap 27 where he moved again to the 5th position by lap 29 only to find the flagman waving the checkered flag. Shane and his ShaneCity race team were very disappointed in the tracks unannounced decision to change the length of the race, as they felt very confident they had the fastest car on the track.

Shane and the ShaneCity race team apologizes to Roger Habich and his team for damage made to Rogers car during the race. Shane made a very bold pass through lead lap and lapped cars. Unfortunately Shane mistimed his pass and made contact with Rogers car. The resulting heavy contact caused substantial cosmetic damage to Rogers’s car. Shane is very sorry for the damage caused to Rogers’s car.

July 22nd, 2006 Shane finishes 24th in the NASCAR NORTHWEST TOUR ELITE DIVISION AT Yakima Speedway.

The weekend’s action was very hot as we took traveled to Yakima Speedway, the 1/2-mile oval in Yakima, WA. This 1/2-mile track is another favorite of ours as the Harding teams have consistantly run up front.

With the crew working in grueling 106 degree heat. The car was near perfect, as Shane would qualify 6th fastest. A ten car invert had Shane starting on the inside third row. At 9:00 PM for the start of the race, the temperature was still 95 degrees. The car's handling didn't react well to the higher than expected temperatures. Shane would remain in the top position all the way until lap 96 when a large crash on the backstretch blocked most of the track. While weaving through the spinning cars, Shane was hit from the rear and pushed into one of the spinning cars in front of him. The car suffered substantial damage though Shane was able to drive to the pits for two very quick pit stops all while remaining on the lead lap. A couple laps later a shower of sparks developed from the front of Shane's car, unfortunately confusion in the pits cost Shane many laps before the problem was found. The crews confusion in solving the cars problem cost Shane an easy top ten finish.

July 15th, 2006 SHANE FINISHES FOURTH IN THE NASCAR NORTHWEST TOUR ELITE DIVISION AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY AND WINS HIS FIFTH RACE IN A ROW IN THE 75 LAP NASCAR DODGE SUPERSTOCK WEEKLY SERIES.

This weekend’s action has us very excited as we took both cars to our home track, the 3/8-mile oval at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. This tight little 3/8-mile track is a favorite of ours as we have 14 wins in our last 20 races on this difficult track.

With the crew working twice as hard preparing two cars for two races they were quite happy with the results. A full field invert had Shane starting last in the 75 lap Superstock event. Shane made quick work and rapidly moved up postions taking the lead on lap He maintained a comfortable lead all the way to to take the checkerd flag.

In the Nascar Northwest Elite division 125, Shane started in the fifth position and with an ill handling car, he was able to move to the forth position which is where he would finish the race. While Shane was happy with the finish, he knew that if the handling was correct it was his race to win.

We would like to give our thanks to Wired X Energy Drinks for suppling us with the needed energy to run both cars on a very warm day, and also to the many hometown fans who came out to the track and cheered us on.

July 8th NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

July 8th, 2006 Shane wins his 4th race in a row. Shane and his dedicated ShaneCity race team returned to our home track Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. Extremely long lines at the Canadian border crossing caused the team to arrive late at the track. The team had time to run only a few practice laps before needing to rush to technical inspections before qualifying. Shane started the race in the 5th position, moved to 4th on lap four and 3rd on lap five. Shane would remain in 3rd position for a number of laps while a fierce battle between Naima Lang in 1st and Doug Davidson in 2nd played out. Hard contact between the two cars allowed Shane to drive between the two spinning cars without hitting either one. With Shane taking the lead on lap 21 he was able to maintain a comfortable lead all the way to lap to take the checkered flag on lap 50.

July 1st, 2006 Shane and his ShaneCity race team made the drive to beautiful Wenatchee, Washington. The track WVSO pictured below was very hot. The temperature was 106 degrees late in the day. The team struggled all day with the car and the heat. In practice despite many changes the car handled very poorly. In qualifying Shane was able to drive the car to a 20th starting position. This position would be very short as during the first lap the source of the cars poor handling would emerge and become much worse making the cars handling intolerable. Loose fasteners on the steering box were allowing the the steering rack to slide back and forth. A trip to pit lane confirmed what was wrong. After securing the loose fasteners, Shane reentered the race 12 laps down. Despite the now misadjusted steering rack, the car was much faster than before. Shane was able to maintain lap speeds equivalent to the top ten cars. Shane finished in the 23rd position 13 laps down. The team while unhappy with it's finish, was able to complete the race and bring home a straight racecar with no damage.

June 24th NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

June 24, 2006 Shane dominates the Evergreen Speedway Buzz Inn Mid Season Championship Night.

A new track rule implemented to help even the competition had little effect on Shane and his ShaneCity race team. The new rule required the team to run a restrictor plate to reduce power. Despite this, the team missed qualifying on the pole by only 0.051 of a second. The invert would have Shane starting 4th. During the race Shane would make quick work rapidly moving to the front. Shane moved to 2nd on lap two and then took the lead on lap nine. Shane would maintain a comfortable lead all the way to lap 50 to take the checkered flag for his third win of the year.

NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Yakima Penguin Plumbing 125 June 17th.

June 17, 2006 Shane and his dedicated team made the long drive from Canada to Yakima Speedway's Nascar Northwest Tour Elite division PENGUIN PLUMBING 125.

Shane, qualified the car 5th fastest out of 30 cars, a six car invert would put him on the outside front row. His front row starting position would be very short as a malfunctioning brake recirculator causing very spongy brakes, this problem would push him all the way back to 15th place before our luck changed and the brake recirculator started working again.

By late in the race, Shane had worked his way back through the field of very good drivers all the way to 7th place. He was confident of a top five finish until another car made a very poorly executed lane change, this other driver ran Shane up and off the track. Shane was able to get the car back on the track during the resulting caution remaining on the lead lap in 20th place.

Shane worked his way though lapped traffic and lead lap cars to finish in 13th place on the lead lap. While the team was disappointed in the finish. The problems the team had were caused by someone else and not of our doing.

Nascar Northwest Series Pepsi 125

June 10, 2006 In this past weekends race, Shane and his dedicated team made the long drive from Canada to Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls (Southern) Idaho, for the Nascar Northwest Tour Elite division Pepsi 125.

After a very busy afternoon of Nascar technical inspections, practice session's and the team making many changes to the car, the car was only 24th fastest out of 33 cars in practice. The team was confident that Shane's car would be much faster with new tires during qualifying. While the team was very confident they would be faster, they had no idea how much faster. Shane nearly grabbed the pole position on his first lap around the the banked 1/3 mile track, with his second lap uncharacteristically being not as good as the first. Shane and team were extremely happy as his first lap placed him the 2nd fasted qualifier out of the 33 cars on hand.

A ten car invert would put Shane starting on the inside of the 5th row. Shane's plan was for him to conserve his tires while making his way to the front. Shane was able to work his way to 8th before hitting a piece of metal debris on the track. The debris stayed there until coming loose on lap 80 puncturing the right front tire and causing a very hard hit into the turn 1 wall. The hardworking crew was able to make quick repairs to the damage, getting Shane back on the track 6 laps down. Shane with his damaged car were easily able able to maintain minimum speeds, all the while staying out of the race leaders way content to finish the race without getting in the way of any lead lap cars.

While the team was not excited about their finish, they were far from being disappointed. The team knows they are on the right track to collect there first win.

June 3rd 2006. NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

Shane Harding wins his 2nd race in a row at Evergreen Speedway. Shane and his team found extremely long lines at the Canadian border. They arrived very late at the track knowing they had missed all practice sessions.

Despite missing all practice and not being able to scuff the new sticker tires. The team bolted on the sticker tires and sent Shane out to qualify. Shane and his great handling car set fast for the third race in a row, running a 17.511 second lap on the 3/8's mile track. For the 50 lap main event, Shane found himself starting eighth due to the invert , he made quick work of the cars in front of him with him taking the lead on lap 15, then remaining out front unchallenged all the way to take the checkered flag.

MAY 27th NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY MONROE, WA

May 27th found the winner to be the rain. The team arrived in Yakima to find persistant rain showers, the race was cancelled being re-scheduled for June 17th. A decision was made by the team to make the four hour drive back to Canada, make a fast switch of cars and equipment (25 minutes) . Then make the two hour drive to Monroe for the Late model race. Once again the team arrived at the track to find that rain showers had started with the forcast for more rain resulted in the cancellation of that race as well.

""

""

This weekend’s action has us very excited as we took both cars to our home track, the 3/8-mile oval at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. This tight little 3/8-mile track is a favorite of ours as we have 14 wins in our last 20 races on this difficult track.

With the crew working twice as hard preparing two cars for two races they were quite happy with the results. A full field invert had Shane starting last in the 75 lap Superstock event. Shane made quick work and rapidly moved up postions taking the lead on lap He maintained a comfortable lead all the way to to take the checkerd flag.

In the Nascar Northwest Elite division 125, Shane started in the fifth position and with an ill handling car, he was able t
